My students need a proven, motivating tool to encourage them to memorize their multiplication facts. The TimezAttack software uses the video-game format children love and pairs it with a fun approach to mastering the facts. Students eagerly beg to play this game over and over and succeed in committing the facts to memory almost without realizing it.

Remember those math flash cards? Remember the joy you felt when the teacher pulled them out? Kids are kids, and they still groan when they have to practice their multiplication facts.

Couple that with the fact that many of my students don't have the parental support to ensure that the practice is really happening. The result is that a giant piece of their foundational math skills is very weak, and subsequent math skills will suffer because of it.

Yet today's children are mesmerized by the technology of video games and willingly spend hours playing them. The TimezAttack software has created an ingenious strategy game that repeatedly puts the multiplication facts in front of the kids, allowing access to higher levels as facts are mastered. Their attention is so focused on the adventure and the graphics that mastery is accomplished with giggles, not groans.

What a gift to my students this would be! So many of them could finally have a taste of success in math, which has usually eluded them in the past. At last, some technology that is actually good for the students!
