Have you ever wondered what it was like to be a civil war soldier? My students have asked me that question before. They have asked me about it on any topic we go over that involves people. Not all of my sixth graders are history lovers like me, but I want them to try and enjoy it while they are in my class. It is difficult to find any books that we can use. The book currently used as the text book is written for eighth graders. Any supplemental materials that we could use are a huge asset.

While trying to explain the Boston Tea Party to them, a fellow teacher had borrowed the book "You Wouldn't Want to Be at the Boston Tea Party." It was like watching the light bulb go off for some of them. With the engaging pictures and story like quality of these books, they are great discussion starters. Having relevant materials will increase the engagement of my students.

We need these six books from the "You Wouldn't Want to Be..." series: You Wouldn't Want To Be An American Colonist You Wouldn't Want To Live In A Wild West Town You Wouldn't Want To Be An American Pioneer You Wouldn't Want To Be A Civil War Soldier You Wouldn't Want to Be at the Boston Tea Party! You Wouldn't Want to Be a Suffragist! These books would be a huge benefit to give the students some ideas about these events.

With your help, my students will see events that have happened in history in a new light. They will see it with a cartoon spin on it. They will be able to hold on to something that shows them what it looks like.
