My classroom has 13 boys and 7 girls, 19 African American and one Caucasian. They are full of energy and love to move. They are 4 and 5 year old pre-school children.

Fifteen of our 20 children qualify for free meals. Our school system had major budget cuts this year. We have struggled through the first half of the year because our playground was closed for lack of repair. Our gym is great, but there are 9 classrooms, special education, and Parents as Teachers who share the space. Often the children struggle to be still but have to because of limited space.

We have requested IPOD shuffles for the 9 classrooms that share the gym, but forgot to get the docking station. When the music comes, we will need a sound dock to play the music on our Apple IPOD shuffle. The dock will make movement in our gym and the extra smaller room accessible. Nine classrooms will use the dock this year and many more to come. I am requesting it for our classroom, but will share it with the school.

With the increase of behavior and attention deficit diagnosis in the schools, it would be cruel to confine the children to one and a half hours of gym per week. Walking around a playground that is closed is torture for them. We do nature walks sometimes but teaching the children dance, songs, games and skits to music would make learning much more fun and relatable to them.
