I teach middle grades science, and my students are in the 8th Grade. My students live in a high-needs rural community.

Students have inadequate resources to complete the hands-on activities that are needed for mastery of some science concepts. My students have expressed an interest in some of my labs; however, most have communicated that inadequate resources are available in their home environments for a "materials fee" for labs.

I will need 101 cow eyeballs to aid in my students' mastery of light waves and how these waves travel through the eye. I believe that if they can master this concept, they will understand the way that light waves can impact the eye, and they will be able to protect their eyes. The students will also be able to master some of the concepts related to Biology, and other life sciences.

Your help will ensure that my students obtain the proper materials to complete the lab that I have developed for them to master the concept of light waves and how the waves travel through the eye. Students that have mastered the concepts of light waves and radiation will be able to spread the knowledge to those that do not know, and will be able to protect themselves in a world that they are still learning to survive in. In this rural high-needs community, hands-on labs aid in making science concepts more concrete for the students, and increase their chances for success in the science classroom.
