In order to graduate high school, all students in the State of New York must pass a series of examinations called the Regents exams, including one for American History and Government. Graduating with a Regents diploma and scoring high grades on standardized exams will enable students to get into a decent college. I currently teach three classes of U.S. History and Government at a high school that has the largest number of English Language Learners in New York City. Many of my students struggle with the language of the examination and need adequate test preparation in order to gain a passing mark on this exam and be one step closer in getting their high school diplomas. Unfortunately, resources are scarce due to city-wide budget cuts. Therefore, my school is at a bind in purchasing essential classroom supplies, such as review books for each Regents class. Your donation will enable each one of my students, many of which are English Language Learners, to familiarize themselves with the language of the test. These review books will enable them to improve their literacy skills en route to passing their state exam in U.S. History this June and to preparing for studying, reading and writing for college.
