Our original item was not available, but we were able to come up with two other things that we were interested in using. The first has been extremely helpful and it was an extra set of holders for our gong stand. We just had performances at the freshman orientation for next year and the school's spring concert. The hooks were very helpful and keeping everything in order for the auxiliary percussion player. \r\n\r\nThe next thing we decided to go with was a drone flute. This is a flute that is able to play two different notes at one time. We have quite a few wind players in the band that were interested in putting their skills to use in a more meditative setting, so they are going to be experimenting. They never heard of anything like that before, so they were very intrigued at how it sounded, and the way that you make music on it.\r\n\r\nMy students love having new performance experiences available to them, and they are always looking to further their abilities and talents. These materials have been utilized during counseling sessions focused on coping skills, identifying emotions, and processing grief in a supportive and structured way. We use the games to help students connect with characters and situations that mirror their own experiences, which opens up meaningful conversations about feelings and loss. The activity cards and games have been especially helpful in making these topics more accessible and less intimidating for students who may struggle to express themselves verbally.\r\n\r\nOne specific moment that stood out was during a small group session where students used the emotion cards to identify how they were feeling that day. A student who typically does not speak much was able to point to several cards and eventually shared a personal experience related to grief. The resources helped create a safe space for that kind of expression.\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the materials, they were very curious and engaged. Many immediately wanted to explore the games and flip through the books. There was a noticeable sense of comfort in having hands-on tools that felt inviting rather than clinical, which helped set a positive tone for the work we are doing together.\r\n\r\nMoving forward, students will continue building on these skills by practicing coping strategies in real-time situations and using the materials to role-play scenarios involving stress, conflict, and loss. The goal is for each student to leave with practical, individualized tools they can use both in and outside of school.","fullyFundedDate":1767936180981,"projectUrl":"project/peace-within-reach-calming-tools-for-an/9893989/","projectTitle":"Peace Within Reach: Calming Tools for Anxious and Overwhelmed Students","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Soto","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-3_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9796885"},{"teacherId":1052249,"projectId":10051198,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your kindness in helping us complete this project. It was perfect timing also because the cart we were using for our parades broke, and we were able to use the wagon from this project in our St. Patrick's Day parade! It literally saved the day, so that was an incredible help! We have the Memorial Day parade coming up at the end of May, so we will be able to use it again for the same reason. We have to have a wagon or a cart to carry water for the players, emergency supplies, extra percussion instruments, etc. so it was truly necessary for our performance. When we are not marching, it has been used to transport instruments around the music wing and through the building when needed. \r\n\r\nThe students have loved playing with the gong stand and using the extra piece that hooks on to the side. They were having fun hanging different chimes and other things on it, and trying to make sure each instrument was being played. They also understand and appreciate why we need a bag for the stand, which does not need to be out in the room every single day (only when we are using the gong) so they are glad it will be protected. \r\n\r\nWe appreciate your kindness very much and look forward to the next time we use our new supplies!","fullyFundedDate":1770223392361,"projectUrl":"project/keep-calm-and-hit-the-road/10051198/","projectTitle":"Keep Calm and Hit the Road","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Iding","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp1052249_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1689028673566","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/ms-iding"},{"teacherId":1052249,"projectId":9980905,"letterContent":"This was something very different for us but the students had a really great time trying something new!
