Chemistry can be a wonderful way for students to apply their creativity in an exciting problem solving arena. I teach sophomores, juniors, and seniors in a large, urban, public high school in New Hampshire.

Although we have a functional facility, our city has systematically cut funding for the schools. This has increased class sizes and decreased the resources available to teachers for materials in their classrooms. Additionally, we are facing a significant budget deficit for this next school year, and it is anticipated that no new materials will be available at all.

It is a constant challenge to keep learning and instruction relevant and engaging. One of the ways that I would like to do this is to integrate aspects of the Web 2.0 culture of creation into my classroom and students. I would love to expand the way that my students create products and allow for them to be able to develop digital multimedia products that can be shared on the Internet. A digital camcorder and headsets with voice recorders are wonderful pieces of equipment that we can use to start producing web content. The creation and editing skills that my students will develop will become increasingly more beneficial as they move on in their lives, and the opportunity to integrate chemistry into these activities will enhance their understanding of that subject as well.

By supporting this project, you will effectively be supporting students all over the world! As my students use the supplies that you have helped to fund, they will be creating products to be posted on the Internet which will be accessible to anyone studying chemistry, wherever they may be. Your donation will enhance the learning experiences of students that we will never know, through the creation of materials by the students that I will work with.
