I teach in a high-need community where 80% of my students are eligible for free lunch. As a dedicated early childhood professional in the public sector, I aspire to provide a nurturing learning environment, however, financial resources available to support programs are diminishing.

In my classroom setting the teacher to child ratio is 1:10. Creating a supportive environment to promote the importance of reading requires innovative strategies to address the needs of all students and materials to provide opportunities for daily practice.

It is my desire to facilitate the development of life long readers by providing a "Book Nook" to encourage independent listening pleasures. The Sit Together Listening Center is a perfect place for children to sit back, relax and follow along with their favorite book or listen to music. The portable CD player is lightweight and compact with anti-skip technology to endure kids' use. The fluency building read along kits provide a classic book plus a CD that narrates the story word for word and enables the children to listen and follow on their own! Language skills are fostered when children listen to stories over and over until they develop an "almost" unconscious familiarity with literary elements and story structure.

Independent reading allows children to see themselves as readers and builds habits that last a lifetime. Your help will ensure that my students become part of a community of readers and experience the invaluable benefits of a "Book Nook"!
