Curious, energetic, and excited about learning describe my class of third grade students.

Each spring, I teach my students a unit on poetry. We read and share a variety of poems, practice how to recite poetry, and then we write our own poems. At the end of the poetry unit, students have a collection of their own original poems, including Haiku, Diamante, holiday, shape, and acrostic poems. It is a fun lesson and the students love to share their writing with each other.

My class needs a supply of colored printer paper and HP ink cartridges so we can type and publish our own poetry collection. We will share our poems during our "Poetry Corner Cafe" activity at the end of the school year. During the "Cafe" each student selects their favorite poem, stands in the spotlight of our classroom, and recites the poem. The rest of us sit back, listen to great writing, and SNAP for each author as they share their poems. The students love this activity!

With your generous donation, my students can realize what it means to write, illustrate, and publish their own original poetry and share those poems with their classmates.
