Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

We've set our goals, now we need help meeting them! I teach in a high need Title I school. We are a full inclusion school, which means that no students are pulled out of the classroom for special education services, but instead special education teachers and reading specialists come into the regular classroom and work in small groups within the classroom. This year we have the added obstacle of being a school on the schools in need of improvement list due to our test scores. In an effort to focus on student achievement and not just test scores, we have been setting academic achievement goals with our students.

At the beginning of the school year, the students took a pre-test to determine what goals they needed to work on this year. After we received the results, I sat down individually with each students and talked withe them about their reading goals. Every student in my class was so excited to have goals to work on throughout the year. I have created as many games and activities to go with each goal as I could to give them ways to work on their goals during independent work time.

I still have not been able to create fun, engaging games and activities for each of the 16 reading goals the students will be working on this year. The students love taking ownership of their learning through working on goals. They would love to have an activity that meets each of their goals.

With your help, my students will have a fun, interactive activity to meet each of their individual needs and goals. The games and activities will reach each and every one of my students on the level they can learn and work best.
