We are a physics department at a large inner-city urban high school with 2500 students. Our physics classes range from AP and IB Physics to Regents Physics to CORE Physics. We also have a Nano Physics course that prepares students for possible careers in nanotechnology.

We have very little technology in our classroom. The extent of our technological resources is an outdated PC and a laptop computer (which we gratefully received last year from DonorsChoose). Many high schools are utilizing data collecting probes in conjunction with laptops and calculators to perform labs that prepare their students more fully for the college experience.

We need data collecting probes and an interface device to connect these probes to a laptop as well as data analysis software. For now, we would like to acquire a single Vernier LabPro device as well as two photogate probes so that we can begin to do some labs using the technology that is available today. We plan on adding more probes in the future as well as additional LabPro devices to further strengthen our lab program.

Your generous assistance will help our students experience the technological advances that are available to the students in many other high schools. Many of the students in our physics program aspire to attend colleges with engineering majors and your donation could help inspire them to pursue careers in science.
