Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach a second grade class at a social justice and language arts magnet school. My students come from various cultures and economic backgrounds, however, most children qualify for free lunches.

In our classroom we had four old turn-of-the-millennium desktop computers; two died and the last two are pathetically slow. The students use computers to review lessons and practice skills in all disciplines. I constantly modify our classroom website, and post new activities according to the students' needs. I'm trying to ensure the kids have access to technology and learn the basic and essential skills they'll need. Unfortunately, since the school can't afford new computers for the classroom, the kids can't practice on a regular basis.

I think they deserve to have a new laptop computer. With one more machine, the turn around will be faster. More students will be able to practice their computer skills while learning, reviewing, and improving all traditional academic disciplines. They'll also take turns creating documents, write at their desk and save their work. The access to more modern technology, on a daily basis, will let them become more computer literate.

We would greatly appreciate your donation of this laptop computer to the class. I guarantee, it will be used on a daily basis! By donating to this project, you will give my students an advantage. By helping to provide a new laptop in the public classroom, you will reestablish some equity in education; allowing students who do not have access to such technology at home a chance to have such at school.
