Butterflies in the Classroom

My students need a butterfly enclosure and related study models as part of our introduction to metamorphosis.

I teach a great group of 5th graders at a high poverty school on the outskirts of metropolitan city. We have a diverse population and most of my kids speak a language other than English at home. They are all really excited to study science, especially hands-on projects.

Our science materials are over ten years old and do not provide any equipment for studying live animals or insects.

As we will be studying life cycles in the months to come, this project would provide over 60 students direct observation of the full life cycle of butterflies. The sturdy butterfly enclosure can stay in the classroom for daily observations while the inflatable models will aid with related lessons and give students something tangible to work with while we track life cycle stages.

By funding this project, you will help to present the science and magic of metamorphosis to groups of young learners for years to come.
