I have a class of first graders that are very excited about learning to read and write. They are very sweet spirited and full of energy. They learn best by practice and hands on materials.

A large percentage of my students come from disadvantaged homes that don't have the funds to purchase books and materials. They are very eager to practice the reading, writing, and speaking process in our classroom through interactive and participatory activities.

I would love to have Poetry Journals for each of my students to practice reading and writing poetry in our classroom writing center. These could also be used weekly to take home and read to parents and family. I would also love to have an Ipod to record their interactive activities in the classroom as they perform and practice their literacy skills. Of course the Ipod could also be used as a listening center for their favorite books.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read my Donors Choose request. I choose to work in a poverty level school because it is so rewarding. I feel like I have made a difference at the end of each day! Encouraging reading and writing skills at an early age can help these kids escape a life of disadvantage and poverty. If you choose to help with my request you also can make a difference!!
