Our small, rural community in northern Maine is known for its cold weather and tremendous amounts of snow. Our school building houses approximately 350 students in grades K-8. Of those, an average of 75 students stay after school four days a week to take part in our after school program.

Because we are a high-need community where parents work two or three jobs just to get by, our afterschool program saves them from having to pay for child care. Their children are kept in a safe environment, assisted with homework, and given the chance to experience new things as much as possible. We have the skis, sleds, and snow shoes....now all we need is a safe, accessible place to keep them.

With a large outdoor storage shed, we can lock our materials up for safety. It would also allow us easy access on those cold, winter days. No more trucking through the building all suited up and dragging our gear behind us! We even have someone who would build us some benches to sit on while we go from boots to skis or snow shoes.!

You know how difficult it is to be awarded even small amounts of grant money during the slow economic time. Won't you please let these Maine kids have the means to start to ski or snow show for a lifetime?
