My students need copies of good quality childrens' literature to share with their special adults during a "read with me" workshop.

"I have that book!" or "I know that story! My mom read it to me." are sentences I want to hear every day in my urban, high-need classroom of thirty Kindergarten children.

The students come from many backgrounds (Forty seven languages are spoken in our school). The children are eager learners who love to hear a good story. At home, their parents and caregivers often do not know what kinds of conversations to have when they read to their children. Indeed, they may not even own a book to share because they are struggling to meet basic needs.

I need a collection of high quality books to use in a workshop. Each child will bring a special adult to the workshop. Using a book from the collection,each parent will learn how to have a good book conversation while sharing a wonderful book. Each child will be able to take home his own new book to enjoy over and over again.

Your generous funding of this project will help my students develop a love of reading. It will help empower my parents as they learn and share along with their children. It will give every child a new book for his very own. What a gift!
