You Can't Change Your Past, But You Can Change Your Future

My students need a variety of 21 books to reach their reading goals.

"If you work harder and harder, you will only get better and better." I am currently in my first year of teaching. I teach 8th grade transitional reading. The transition program is design to motivate and encourage at risk students. My school is located in a poverty stricken area. I teach in my hometown and I try to mentor each of my students and let them know if I can do it, they can too.

The students in the transitional program lack motivation. It is a challenge trying to get the students to read. They complain about the book selection in the school library because they cannot relate to the books.

This is my first year teaching reading and my classroom library is nonexistent. I would like to have books in the classroom library that are relevant and interesting to my students.

For many of my students, this is their last chance to have someone reach out and try to motivate them to stay in school and get an education. Reading is very important and by providing books that are of interest to the students, it will increase their chances of realizing they can accomplish their goals by working hard and staying focused.
