Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach second grade in a high poverty school in Indiana that also struggles with high mobility. I want to instill in my students a love of reading.

My students lack connections to the past, connections that will allow them to become great figures in our society. I want to help make these connections for my students.

I would like to start a book club for my second grade students using the American Girl historical doll books. By receiving several copies of the books in the Addy series, my students will be able to make connections with the struggles that Addy faces and learn from the decisions Addy makes. Noting the historical events in the books will also allow my students to have a firmer understanding of our nation and the changes we have undergone.

With your help, my students will experience a literacy awaking that will empower them as future leaders.
