This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Hello! This is my fourth year teaching first grade in an inner city school. My school primarily works with students who are English Language Learners and from low-income families. It is my classroom goal to have 90% of my students reading and writing at grade level by the end of the year. In order for my students to become more successful readers, I am requesting 10 sets of read aloud books for my classroom library. These supplies will provide choral reading experiences for all students. Having read alouds that students can discuss and write about is an essential part of helping my students meet proficiency in reading. Access to these books will allow my students to build reading comprehension, vocabulary skills, and fluency. These materials will help to promote academic success in reading, as well as writing. Perhaps most importantly, these books will encourage a love of reading in my students.
