Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I work at a special education school, servicing emotionally disturbed, learning disabled, and other special education classified students. Our students come from low socioeconomic backgrounds. Over 95% of the student body is eligible for free lunch and over 90% receive public assistance. The school’s ethnicity is as follows: 60% Hispanic, 30% African American, 8% Caucasian, and 2% Asian. These factors come together and place our children at a huge disadvantage, but we are committed to providing them with a rigorous academic and therapeutic program. I teach science and math to these special students, and we are in need of a new LCD monitor for our computer. We currently have an old, clunky monitor that is in poor condition. A new monitor would allow my students to see crisper images when using the computer for classroom assignments, projects, and research. An LCD monitor is a vital component to an up-to-date computer center. Two other teachers in my building recently received new monitors, and it is like having a brand new computer. Despite their specialized learning needs, many of my students still aspire to attend college. They are encouraged to strive for their goals, both big and small. Thank you so much for considering my wonderful students!
