Cut Paper Colors Our World!

My students need construction paper, and a safe way to cut it with a trimmer!

Greensboro, NC Grades 3-5

My co-teacher and I have 700+ students in grades K-5. Ours is a highly impacted school in an urban setting, where about 75% of the students are on free or reduced lunch programs because the family median income is lower than the poverty level.

We have two problems at this point. First, the supply budget has run out, and second, we need more construction paper! Our kids love collage, and we have great lesson plans for other projects that require paper we don't have. It's just now the beginning of second quarter, and already we're out of black and green paper. We buy the biggest sizes of drawing and construction paper available, and then cut it to size ourselves because it's more economical that way. This leads to the second problem - our paper cutter is old and unsafe. There is no finger guard or safety latch, and the measuring grid is really hard to read. The arm of this guillotine-style cutter is wiggly and won't stay up - which means that to use it, we have to raise the arm as high as it will go, and hold the arm up with a shoulder while trying to position the paper and hold it in place to accurately cut right angles.

We need a new paper cutter, and we need construction paper for our projects. The cutter we selected is designed with multiple safety features that will make it easier to use, and as an extra-added-bonus-feature, it's designed to cut stacks of paper instead of just a few sheets, which will save us time, as well.

Your support will make it possible for our students to make dragons, collages and Very Hungry Caterpillars, and my co-teacher and I will be able to cut paper for the kids without cutter problems!
