Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I am the art teacher at a Title I low income, high needs elementary school. The majority of our students are non-English speakers who come from impoverished backgrounds. I teach an inclusive multicultural visual arts curriculum based upon Enduring Ideas. In order to expand the knowledge base and vocabulary of my students I use actual items or facsimiles to demonstrate and explain the concepts contained in my lessons. Having tried dead real fish, these rubber forms are the better choice for this series of lessons.

My students are intrigued by the art based traditions of other cultures and being able to actually do the same process as has been done for centuries by the Japanese is very exciting.

Using the rubber models is more appropriate than using dead fish and will give my students an understanding not only of the original Japanese reasons for doing this but also an insight into how this art form is currently being used by artists in other cultures.

Your help will ensure that my students are able to broaden their knowledge and understanding of this Japanese printing process and its evolution as an art form.
