One of my goals this school year is to offer the opportunity to my students to read more often. So much emphasis is placed on test scores recently that reading books gets pushed aside.

I teach history to 10th graders in a school that struggles to provide materials and opportunities to students. After fourteen years of teaching here, I still seek to find books to interest my students. Reading novels isn't always included in history classes, but I believe books can bring history to life. Students can lose themselves in the story and better understand our past.

I found a book this summer, Day of Tears, that they will love. The topic, a slave auction, is high interest and the book is written at a level that is accessible to them.

I would love to use this book in my classroom this year. With your help, we can make it happen.
