"Entry level jobs, college applications - they all require basic computer skills. My students are in the 12th grade and ready to face the world, except for their lack of computer access and skills. My school is in a major urban city and 100% of our students live in poverty. Most do not have computers at home and I do not have any in the Transitional Life Skills Class that I teach.
I teach students who need a little extra help transitioning into life after high school. They are enthusiastic, happy young people who will be able to start college in the fall if we can arm them with some strategies for college success. I feel that their lack of computer skills, not to mention the fact that college applications are taken on line now, leave them at a distinct disadvantage. They cannot hope to compete with their suburban counterparts. I would like to request four laptop computers for my students to share. They must become more proficient in computer skills and the only way we can make that happen is by using computers. They would be able to research colleges and careers, apply to schools online and apply for jobs. The smaller laptop computers could be locked up safely at night and the next morning we would sit at our round table and prepare for a bright future ! Your donation would help close the technology gap that exists in our country's schools. My students would get the experience they need and the access to computers they need to attend college, find a job, and be successful at whatever they choose. HIDE My students need 4 laptop computers.
