Growing Environmentally Conscious-Summer Science Academy

My students need one color printer to print out laboratory reports and/or photo-essays that detail environmental investigations.

Imagine a classroom that is the Adirondack Mountains and Lakes. Now imagine 30 high school students that may never have seen the Adirondack Mountains or an Adirondack lake that join a ‘Summer Science Academy’ and spend their summer learning about the beauty of the delicate balance that these ecosystems represent. Now imagine 30 students that are forever dedicated to protecting their environment. This is our mission, and what we do at The Summer Science Academy for two weeks every summer.

The students that join the science academy are serious students that are motivated learners. They are the type of student that will make an impact during their life with decisions that may affect others that are environmentally, ethically, and morally sound.

Students in the summer science academy perform a field investigation that deals with invasive species. One of the ways they will use the color printer will be to print out quality photographs for inclusion and identification in laboratory reports. The color photographs are essential for the verification of their findings.

The students in the summer science academy are some of the brightest students our high school has to offer. We encourage them to try to publish their work and to share it with the student body as a hole. Their work is displayed for the student body on a number of occasions through the year. The color printer will make all the difference in the presentation of their work.
