Basic Technology Needs

My students need a printer with multiple functions in the classroom so that they will be competitive with other non-inner city schools.

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

We are an inner city vocational high school in MA. I teach Anatomy and Physiology and Biology to 9th through 12th grade students. We try to be as hands on as possible. The students in this school truly love to learn.

As a classroom, we have essentially zero technology (with the exception of a overhead projector and a digital projector that is shared with the entire science department). Our students are incredibly multimodel and constantly need reinforcement of organizational techniques and skills. However, I am unable to provide them with feedback on grades or supplemental work because I have no method of printing within the day--much of my printing is done at home because of the specialized programs I have to align supplement work with our textbook that is only on my computer.

If our classroom had a printer with multiple functions, I could print out progress reports, extra help notes and activities, scan and post online answers or notes from a class, and make copies for students within a class period. My students would be able to hand in assignments online, and have feedback on paper. They can stay after school with me in my classroom to work on projects and even be tutored in their other subjects.

I know that a printer seems like a simple request, but as teacher it is an essential tool that we are not able to have at our school. This particular printer will also help me model to my students how everything is going "green" (laser printers use less energy and ink). Towards the end of this year, my students will be working on the second science fair (ever) at our school, and I know they will be using this printer endlessly. Help my students by giving them this basic need.
