Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach first grade in a brand new charter school in a high need, low-socioeconomic neighborhood.

As a new school we are short supplies. My students are emerging readers with a passion for the written word. Every day we set aside one hour for reading centers in which I work in small groups with students to help them become fluent readers. During this time the other students work independently at centers.

This is where we need your help. We are asking for alphabet stamps, and literacy games for use in our center. Centers are self directed student engaged activities that help promote phonemic awareness, fluency and comprehension. Center time allows students to practice the skills they are learning in class while I as a teach pull students in groups for reading practice.

Your donation will help my students become engaged in reading in a fun and positive way. Without you we will not have activities for our centers. You will make a difference by helping students who are at a disadvantage close the achievement gap.
