"I am a second grade regular education teacher. Currently I am teaching at an equity plus school which means 90% of our students are on free or reduced lunch. Science has become a major focus due to the testing of it in the upper grades. We find that our school has limited resources for 2nd grade concepts in order to provide them with a good foundation of these topics.

I have found an activity tub and a book library that covers matter, weather and insects-three of our major concepts taught in 2nd grade. I feel that if these are provided for the second grade classes at our school, then our students will go on to the upper grades with a richer understanding of vocabulary and concepts within these three areas. The activity tubs consist of exciting experiments and high-interest writing projects that include everything needed to investigate important science concepts. The book libraries coordinate perfectly with the tubs to help students investigate these topics even further.

I know that if you provide funding for these science kits, my students and others in 2nd grade will have a richer understanding of science concepts. This richer understanding will lead to higher scores on the Science tests that are in the upper grades.
