Literary Letter Writing

I teach some amazing artistic kids in a public high school. They are ambitious and talented, but need some interactive lessons to make reading and writing come alive.

Though these students are creative, they need help writing formally for different tasks both for high school, college and for careers. I try to give them real-world tasks that are relevant. One is resume-writing (since they are artists and performers.) Another is letter-writing - perhaps a lost art, but one that I feel is important in developing relationships as well as understanding the craft of writing.

Though I can teach business letter-writing with the computer, having stationery to make letter-writing personal and immediate will make a big difference. Students will write directly to peers about books, to authors, and to donors - like you - to thank them. The stationery adds a tactile and personal level of experience to letter-writing. Think how valuable it will be for students to write thank you notes to college admissions officers, to professors, and to friends and family!

You can make important college and life skills relevant and accessible to my amazing artists. Help students communicate their thoughts clearly in letters and notes. Thanks for thinking of my students!
