"I teach Art to grades K-5 in a low income community. This past year we had more homeless families on our enrollment than any year I can remember. Coming to art class seems to be a much needed escape for many of my kids.
Each year my students "travel" around the world discovering art from many countries. Their art projects are inspired by these imaginary journeys and logged in their "passports". Since many of my students may never travel very far from home, these adventures are exciting and eye-opening for them. They come to my room very excited, asking, "Where are we going today?"
Last year our travels included Nigeria, Vietnam, Greece, Italy, Mexico, The San Blas Islands, The Netherlands and Harlem, NY. This year we plan to visit France, China, Japan, The Caribbean, Australia, Russia and Kenya.
Currently, I am using a blurry 15 year old 21" TV connected to my computer to show all of the art images I have collected. A larger TV screen will really bring the artwork to life.
Your donation will enable my students to continue their "travels" around the world!
My students need a flat-screen LCD TV and a wall mount.
The cost of this proposal is $1,135, which includes shipping for any materials requested and fulfillment ."

"I donated because I think that encouraging kids to study other cultures and places, and giving them the tools and resources to engage their curiosity, is one of the most important things that we can do to foster adults who are more aware of the world as a global community, and of cultural differences."
