Content Crazy!

My students need one Cells & Organisms Activity Tub, one Force & Motion Activity Tub, a set of U.S. History Graphic novels, a Make Your Own U.S. Land form kit and a the Social Studies Project Center.

Ms. Schulz Stout Field Elementary School
Indianapolis, IN Grades 3-5

Do you remember being so excited about doing science experiments or learning about the early times in American history? I want my students to be as excited about science and history as I was as a student. I teach in a high-poverty urban school in one of Indiana's largest school districts. My students experience things that as an adult I can't bear to imagine. While at school, my students are able to be engaged and keep their minds off of the troubles that are waiting for them at home.

My students need a variety of resources to keep them engaged during science and social studies. They need more than a textbook to teach them these important standards. The students will learn so much more when they can experience with hands on activities and projects. These additional resources will ensure that my students are able to learn more about science and social studies.

The science activity tubs (motion and cells) will be used throughout the year. They will be used during our content block during "experiment" time. They will also be used during the reading block because often our weekly reading selection relates to different science topics. The U.S. History Graphic novels will be placed in our classroom library for the students to read. The format of graphic novels is always a huge hit with the boys. These comic style books will reinforce in an interesting way the historical event the social studies text is presenting. The U.S. landforms kits gives the students the opportunity to make their own 3-D map. The opportunity to make the map and label important places will help the students learn about the geography. Finally, the independent social studies project center will be available for students all day. This center will act as an enrichment for those students who do not need reteaching and finish with in class assignments early. It will allow them to push themselves and learn independently.

You will help to make what was once a part of the day that my students did not look forward to because science and social studies can be difficult to grasp when not only taught via the textbook to something they look forward to. Your generosity will help make them CRAZY ABOUT CONTENT TIME!!
