Students Teaching Peers With Power Point And LCD Technology.

My students need one LCD projector.

  • $793 goal

This project expired on January 30, 2010.

I teach sixth grade language arts for gifted and talented children in a city school system with moderate poverty.

I try to incorporate technology into my teaching often, but sometimes one really needs to plan way ahead to have your name in the sign-out book for an LCD projector at my school. Having one in my classroom would enable me to use even more technology and a student centered approach to learning.

Along with using an LCD projector to teach lessons using the Internet, presentations, or photos, and show movies (all of which I already do), this year, I want to have my students create power points on topics related to the reading and then present them to their peers. For example, for the novel "Animal Farm", students would work in small groups to research and present on aspects of the Cold War like the Berlin Wall or the Cuban Missile Crisis. We did this once at the end of the year last year, and I needed to have one of the school's coveted LCD projectors out for 3 consecutive days for all the student groups to present. I would like to start having the students do this with each novel as a way to discuss the historical background. My students really enjoyed presenting their projects; they had a real pride in ownership, and they were teaching each other.

Please help me to bring my students the computer and technology skills they need while bringing them into an active role as presenter of their own research power point.
