"Word Fluency Practice

Students are partnered up by 2s. I have 18 students so I would have 9 groups of 2.

Supplies: Each group of students would have a digital recording device, a microphone, 2 sets of head phones, 1 stop watch, one copy of Word Fluency Practice story for the week, a student wpm tracking sheet(1 for each student). Duration of Lesson: 15 minutes 3 times a week, throughout the year.

Students get with their partner and get their Word Fluency Practice Podcasting Supply kits. Students trade off who reads first and who times first. One student reads the story (student A) for the week while the other student (student B) times them. As the student is reading they should be recording themselves to listen to after. The time limit is one minute. After a minute the student stops reading. The students figure how many words the student read in one minute and record the number on that student's tracking sheet. Then switch.

Students enjoy being the star of the show. They like to improve and do things on the spur of the moment to entertain when they feel comfortable. I like to pretend to be characters and encourage my kids to make sound effects while I am reading. My students love making my rumbling thunder or smashing noises.

I think that by acquiring my needed items on my wish list, my students will increase their reading fluency. They will also work on various presentations.
