Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I once heard that writing was kind of like ice skating, hard at first but then fun. I have amazing students that have a lot to say. My students are motivated but have difficulty writing. I want to begin a writer's workshop with them so they have the opportunity to write daily. The only problem is that with budget cuts, I don't have the money or the supplies we need to start. I teach 6th grade in a high poverty area with many ESL students. We don't have the parental involvement that some schools do and many of my students parents are not able to provide very basic school supplies.

My students have incredible lives and need to understand that they have fantastic tales to tell. They also need more instruction on how to write a basic essay, persuasive papers and find their writing voice.

I need 3-ring binders and 2 pocket folders for each of my students so that we can begin writer's workshop. By having these supplies, I will not only be able to create confident writers but also show my students that they have important things to write about.

Your help will ensure that my students realize how important writing is and how significant their lives are. Writing is so important in everyday life and unfortunately, some students see themselves as bad writers. By supporting this project you will be helping me to show 6th graders the fun they can have writing and also help me to teach them essential skills.
