Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Inner city, poverty-stricken kids deserve a chance to create documentaries that empower them to reflect on their life experiences, and share their reality with us through their own eyes.
State-wide budget cuts mean increased class size, less individual attention, and fewer resources available for inner-city children. The ones who are the most needy suffer these cuts the most.
By funding this project, you would give children an opportunity to unleash their creative expertise. Students could participate in film contests, or host a school-wide film festival. Students would be exposed to a variety of films, as well as the production process. The opportunities and possibilities are endless.
Video is such an incredible outlet for kids who possess so little. From the planning process to the tangible end product, children gain so much pride and self respect, being able to see their vision become reality. If 550 students can share 10 video cameras to create 180 unique, student-produced films each marking period, the results would be tremendous. Imagine a school which serves underprivileged children, able to generate over 720 student films a year. Imagine the students who would be given a voice. Imagine the pride!
