Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach a kindergarten ESOL class in an economically disadvantaged community. School supplies are scarce, and items such as flannel board story pieces are "luxuries" we could never hope to have. My students love to read stories and then retell them by acting them out on a flannel board with story pieces. Each student wants to be the person telling the story! We need story board flannel pieces to re-enact our stories. Currently we have only a few story kits in our classroom that three kindergarten classes share with a total of 50 - 60 students. Retelling and acting out a story with flannel board pieces is crucial to comprehension and sequencing skills. These story kits will allow my five and six year olds to act out stories more frequently, enabling each student to be the "star" of the story while displaying their understanding and comprehension. Story kits are vital tools to review and retell the story. Should you donate to our project, we would be forever grateful! Thank you!
