I am a middle school music teacher in a high-needs neighborhood. Our music program began last year and was housed in a borrowed classroom on a nearby campus. Due to the success of our program, we have been given our own music room on the school's temporary campus for the 2009 - 2010 school year. The campus is very old, run-down, and in need of a great deal of TLC. Regardless of this, we are delighted to have a home!

Our bare, run-down classroom has no supplies. I am hoping to spend the summer creating a warm, inviting environment for the students.

I am hoping to create a listening center for the students. As young musicians, part of our curriculum is the study of sheet music and scores. The classroom also is bare and in need of brightly colored posters, calendars, planners, and bulletin boards. As a teacher, I am in need of class record books and certificates. These young musicians have worked very hard to build this new program, and we are delighted have a home on our own campus. It means a great deal to us to have a safe, warm, inviting band room to call home.

Your help will ensure my students will have the basic necessities for a music classroom in a neighborhood where band programs are struggling to survive. Ours is a program on the move - we have grown so much in our first year. Now we look forward to the joys and struggles of our second year as a thriving music program.
