"I am an inner city middle school nurse who is training underprivileged students to empower themselves and impact their own health through nutrition education and skills application.
Many of my students do not have access to health care or medications and come to school sick. Many could have better health through nutrition awareness and health education.
I need educational materials like food models, posters, food scales and calipers to simulate hands on scenarios to determine their health status and then make food choices for better health. I would also like to give them a healthy snack.
Your contribution will help students learn and use a simple solution toward optimal health. This project addresses wellness through nutrition, educating and empowering young students who have minimal health resources to take their health into their own hands by eating well. Students can be assisted to assess their own health needs and construct meals with food models to determine if they are making good choices to meet their health goals. I would also like to give them a healthy snack when they are hungry.
My students need foods models, a food scale, a skin caliper, posters and nutrition related materials.

Dear Pascale, Nick Jones, Dr Isis, Alaina, Margaret, Sarah, Claire, Lunch Studio, John B., TrialbyFood and Erica,
This is my letter of great appreciation for the generous donations to my health project. I believe that people have the power to create change in their lives and in their health. I love to educate people to empower themselves. As a school nurse, I have realized the role of nutrition in relation to health now more than ever.
I have created the "nutrition challenge" game and I use the food models to assess student's knowledge level then to teach them how to eat for life. The snack posters are also right there to show them the foods they could choose to eat better.
We are using the scale and caliper in college prep class to show students how to control portion sizes and collect objective data to evaluate health results. The hands-on learning makes knowledge applicable and the students get involved in learning. A granola bar to a student who didn't have breakfast lets them know I care about their hunger and their health.
Thank you all for helping my vision for healthy kids, healthy schools come to pass!
With gratitude, Ms. J.

Dear Pascale, Nick Jones, Dr Isis, Alaina, Margaret, Sarah, Claire, Lunch Studio, John B., TrialbyFood and Erica,
I am so grateful to all of you who have faith in my project and its purpose. I was excited to see all the donors and their reasons for supporting my project. The students and I are anxious to start learning more about nutrition and how they can apply the new knowledge to their daily nutritional needs. The caliper and food scale will help us to stick to our food plans and weight goals. It will give them concrete ways to measure progress. Our food models will help students learn to make healthy food choices.
"I gave to this project because I am a scientist myself. And I love the idea of giving everyone an opportunity to learn about these complicated ideas. Whether or not anyone decides to be a scientist, they will grow from this experience."
"Thanks to all who have donated. I am grateful that you have faith in my project. I know this will impact the lives of my kids even into adulthood. Health is our most valuable investment for the future."
