I am the proud teacher of special education students. I have a wide variety of students in my classroom. They range from being on the Autistic spectrum, to students with Cognitive Disorders, to students with social and emotional disabilities. 90% of the students in my school receive free or reduced lunch.

Being that our school has so many students receiving free or reduced lunches, much of our extra money goes towards these students. There is not enough money for teachers to really have the things that they need to be effective teachers. Unfortunately, special education students are at the absolute bottom of the supply totem pole. We have to beg and plead to even use some of the text books in the building. There isn't money left over to purchase some basic supplies that can be used to make the hands on materials that many of my students crave.

I need different colored file folders and post-it notes to use in combination with the take it to your seat books in order create activities for students do when they finish their work. I also need some pre-made take to your seat centers so that they do can get going right away.

According to the No Child Left Behind Act, all students have the right to learn. My students learn in different ways and need the supplies help them. Because of your generosity, my students will practice learning new concepts, review already learned concepts, and more importantly, they will gain the confidence they so desperately need. New worlds will open for them as the little light bulbs in their heads light up.
