Help My Students Stop Global Warming One Home at a Time

My students need 30 reusable shopping bags, 30 wide mouth reusable water bottles, and 150 cfs light bulbs.

Hi, I teach secondary science for grades 7-12. Our school is the only school teaching children of a hospital. Our students come mainly from high-need communities in the New York City. All of our students have moderate to severe disabilities caused by car accidents, different forms of cancer, and other medical diseases. Although, we face many challenges teaching our students, all of the teachers at our school strive and do their best effort to give them the best education. Our school follows the inclusion model with integrated classes. In my class we differentiate our lessons to meet the goals of all the students regardless of their disability.

As part of the environmental studies unit, my students wanted to become more involved and make a direct impact in the home and community they live in. Their idea is to invite their parents to an assembly were they would present the threat of global warming to our environment. They would also present to their families how much energy they could save by making simple changes in their lives, for example, replacing florescent light bulbs for cfs bulbs, and using reusable shopping bags and water bottles. Their idea is that at the end of the assembly, each family would be provided with a reusable shopping bag, 4 cfs light bulbs and a reusable plastic bottle. This is an amazing project and would provide my students with the opportunity to make a direct impact on the effort to control global warming.

My students need reusable shopping bags, cfs light bulbs, and reusable plastic bottles to conduct their assembly. As an educator I see the potential in this project. I believe that this project would allow my students to actively participate in investigating, analyzing and proposing solutions to a problem that involves us all, namely, global warming.

Your help will ensure that many students carry out their assembly, and educate their parents and community about ways to reduce the amount of CO2 put into the atmosphere. Global warming is our responsibility and providing our future generation with a good education on the causes and possible solutions should be our goal. With your donation you will contribute to the achievement of this goal. Thank you.
