Help me give my students a completely new perspective. I teach art to all students at a K-5 elementary school which serves an extremely high poverty population. I try everyday to show them something new inside my classroom since all many of them see outside of the class is the viewpoint of families dealing with poverty, broken homes, and lack of good health care.

We have low test scores and low self esteem due to the nature of self perpetuating poverty. I need to integrate other curriculum studies into the art class without losing the importance of art itself. There is little or no parental support for things that are aesthetic and little understanding of how vital it is to the development of children's brains. I teach many who come to school without knowing how to cut with scissors, or have never used a crayon, much less painted and created expressive pieces of work to define one's worth. These families know only work, welfare, and worry. The children tend to show survival behaviors more than manners. TV is a babysitter and kids are less impressed in the classroom if it is not glitzy and glossy and running like an action film.

I can fix this for one project by using the holographic 3-D color theory optical illusion lesson with my students. This informational tool and 3-D glasses set can give students the feel of something modern and teach them the validity of artistic technique. I can teach the elements and principles while wowing them with the supplies and holographic color theory effect. Once learned, knowledge will be power as I guarantee there will be kids doing this on their own time at home to impress others. Integrating science will be easy with these 3-D supplies to discuss sight and color theory. Integrating math will be a benefit as we can discuss graphing in three dimensions. Students can see the connection...feel the experience...take pride in what they create...have power with the knowledge.

You can make these things possible with your donation to help us purchase the 3-D color theory kit and 3-D glasses for viewing results. With the budget cuts all over the country, the arts will be a victim to the circumstances in rural areas like ours. You have the power to donate and purchase supplies that will give them knowledge which will bring power to their lives. My students and I will truly appreciate your support
