Character Building Kids Need Cameras...Say That 5 Times Fast!

My students need a video camera to tape their skits in order to run our monthly character trait assemblies.

Let's bridge the gap between using technology and teaching morals to our kids! I am a 3rd grade teacher with 20 students as well as co-chair of my school's Project Cornerstone program, which leads 25 4th & 5th graders, as well as parents, in making our school community a better place to be! Project Cornerstone's mission is to train and mobilize adults throughout our county to intentionally work to develop healthy, caring, and responsible children and youth.

After a beginning-of-the-year training for the 4th and 5th grade Cornerstone representatives, they came up with an action plan for improving the moral strength of our school. Part of this plan is running monthly character trait assemblies. Each month our reps bring the school together and present a certain trait. They do skits, explain concepts, ask questions, and help teachers present awards to the students who show strong moral character. Recently, they decided it would better the program, and quality of the skits, by presenting them by video.

When the reps do skits in front of the school live, the quality isn't as great due to nerves, sound issues in our multi-purpose room and sometimes forgetting lines! This could be remedied by having a video camera to tape them, creating a much stronger message to the students at our school. Also, I would teach them how to work the camera and edit themselves, therefore incorporating technology & practical skills too. They will hook up the tape to our school's projector and present their skits this way. It will greatly improve the quality of the presentations and allow the reps to be involved in the behind-the-scenes work of running the assembly.

Really, the great thing about donating to my cause is that buying this equipment has a direct affect on our entire school community! The other students enjoy learning about moral issues from their peers, the Cornerstone representatives develop strong leadership skills and parents couldn't be more proud! You will truly help make our entire school a better, safer and friendlier place to learn. Thank you for your consideration!
