Picture this... a community of learners with little to no resources available to them. I teach high school students in an economically deprived area. My students are primarily special education students.

With the difficult economic times, and many people in our community losing jobs, there is never enough money in our budget for innovative projects to inspire kids to take chances. Well, I am stepping up to the plate and proposing a project that will give my students their Thirty Seconds of Fame.

Every year, students create projects or learn skills that are really unique. Each one of my students have qualities that often get overlooked. With the use of a video camera, students will be able to capture their special talents. They will learn how to edit their taping down to a thirty second piece, their thirty seconds of fame. All of the thirty second segments will be compiled into a video CD titled "Our Thirty Seconds of Fame." This video would be presented at our yearly open house.

My special needs students need hands-on opportunities to show others exactly what they can do. Paper and pencil tasks frustrate them and often are a reminder of their weaknesses. You will make it possible for kids to experiment with technology that they otherwise would not have the chance.
