Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach 7th through 12th grades at an inner-city charter school. The school I work at is over 80% free and reduced lunch.

Recently I took students to an art museum. The museum we went to had a Dale Chihuly glass exhibit. My students were amazed at the art of Dale Chihuly. Several weeks later, my students still talk about how much they liked the exhibit. This project is designed to emulate the art of Dale Chihuly. Instead of making bowls with glass, the students will be using polyester film and transparent paint. Using these supplies, the students will create artwork that looks like Chihuly's abstract bowls.

These art supplies are not glass blowing supplies like Dale Chihuly uses, but it is a cleaver way to create an artwork that looks similar to Chihuly's art. Using the supplies listed in this project, my students will be able to create an artwork based on Chihuly's "Macchia" series. I have several students who have decided to be art majors once they enter college. This project will be a great addition to their portfolio that colleges will look at.

By donating to this project you will be empowering inner-city students to create art which will cultivate creativity and self assurance. Generous citizens like yourself make it possible for students to receive the highest educational opportunities possible. Projects like this are not typical art assignments. By donating to this project you would be giving students the opportunity to create an artwork that could give future artists an edge when their portfolios are judged by college admissions. The students who would not be a future college student will have the opportunity to create an art piece that they will cherish forever.
