Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a PK ESL teacher to a very diverse and low income/social economic group of students. I have 37 students in my morning and afternoon classes.
PK is such a critical grade for students in this community. Many of our students come to school not having any knowledge of the most basic Math skills like Colors, Shapes, Counting, Number recognition Sorting, Patterning, Making Number sets and etc. I find that my students are most engaged or motivated through hands on activities and the use of manipulatives with skills taught. My school has 3 ESL/Bilingual PK classes. It is quite challenging to share or rotate our very few resources that we have in PK. Our school's budget is also very limited which makes it very challenging to teach and master our Math skills for the year.
I strongly feel that with the use of these manipulatives and hands on activities my students will be very engaged and motivated to master these very basic Math skills. These materials will also help my students develop their problem skills, help to connect their learning with the real world and to love Math!!! These Math Resources will help my students to practice their skills independently at centers, during whole group instruction or during small group instruction time with me. These materials will make learning basic Math skills very meaningful and fun!
