My students need 6 tennis rackets and tennis balls.

I teach middle school in a low-income neighborhood. We have no field (in fact we have no grass at all). In addition, the kids do not receive proper physical education. During gym class, the students are just given a bag of supplies that include basketballs, a football and at one point jump ropes. The students are expected fit stereotypes, leaving the boys to play one of the two sports and girls to skip rope. I have a very serious problem with this and think it is important for my students, both boys and girls, to be exposed to as much as possible. For the past two years I have run a "Geeks and Games" club where students stay after school for an hour of tutoring, then play an hour of a sport other than basketball. My students have participated in co-ed football, kickball, ultimate frisbee, various tag games and soccer. It has been a great way to expose students to new concepts and to prove that both boys and girls can be successful athletically. More importantly, it teaches students sportsmanship, inspires confidence and provides motivation for an active lifestyle. I would like to continue this tradition of exposure next fall. Even though we have no field, we do have two tennis courts right across the street. I have never seen any of my students play tennis and would be surprised if more than a handful had ever even held a racket in their hand. I would love the opportunity to expose them to this wonderful sport. As you probably know, tennis is one of those activities that you can play for decades. All anyone needs is a friend, some rackets and a canister of balls. This is exactly what I am asking for in hopes that all of my students become more likely to try something new.
