Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

The ninety eight-grade Pre-Algebra students that compose my classroom are members of a high-poverty community.

Because of this poverty level, our school district is unable to afford technology in the classroom. As a whole, the school classrooms are simply equipped with whiteboards to convey information to my students. With the addition of technology such as a previously acquired SMARTBoard to my classroom, I have been able to provide a wider array of information to my students. This technology has better captured the attention of my students and has begun to instill in them an excitement of learning math.

Recently the projector used with my SMARTBoard has stopped working, and I do not have the means to purchase a new one. I am hoping to replace this projector so that I can continue the use of the SMARTBoard technology in my classroom. When replaced, I will again be able to employ learning software included with our classroom textbooks, have students participate in digital games and activities to enhance class material, and use the internet to provide students with application of what they are learning.

As a donor, you will again enable me to provide my students with technology in the classroom- to turn their minds from the negative influences of their impoverished community and ensnare them in the joy of learning.
