Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I am an elementary school library media specialist. My students are inner city, multi-cultural and love reading. Many of them need an opportunity to not only be introduced to quality literature but to be able to retell the story with props, such as these kits will make available. My student body is Pre-K to 6th and I will make these items available to staff members also, such as ESL teachers.

There is definitely a language barrier with many of our students speaking Spanish and Portuguese and coming from low income, culturally deprived families. I have been trying to make paper puppets with the students but having these tools will add a definite wow factor to the activity.

The Lakeshore Storytelling Kits will enable me to introduce the students to the stories and then give them the opportunity to retell the stories in a group setting. We can use a flannel board which I already have or can do play situations. I know they will love this activity!

Please help me to make a difference in my students lives. They do love to be read to, and they love to perform. These items will enable me to do both since I already have the hardcover books in the library. Please enrich their library/literature experience.
