Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Our school, in which over 80% of the students are poor, has for the past 8 years sent 100% of our graduating high school seniors to a 4-year college or university. I am unbelievably privileged to teach such responsible, respectful, and hard-working young adults as they work together to achieve the same goal - graduating from college. The results of these students' work ethics and actions are phenomenal...so much that some of the most important people in the country are visiting our charter school and are suggesting in their Annual Newsletter to Congress that they provide more funding to such successful & unique educational programs as ours!

While our students have excelled academically, they are yearning for another outlet for their creativity. I am thrilled to take something I became so passionate about in the 8th grade and be able to provide the same opportunity for my students! Guitar! Unfortunately, our low-income charter school currently receives very little funding from the state & federal governments to pay for such opportunities for our deserving students.

So! We're building our high school credit guitar class from the ground up...one guitar at a time...and we're hoping you can help! We were recently funded for two guitars and we are extremely thankful for that!! Our plan is to eventually acquire 20 guitars and build a strong program that allows our students to develop their interests in music in an open-minded, expressive environment.

In times like these, when many people are losing jobs or cutting back on expenses just to make ends meet, young people are looking for hope and are determined & focused about not only their own futures but those of their peers. They hope for something more, something better. Our students often come from horrible home-situations and almost all are economically-disadvantaged. Yet, they come to school with a smile every day and do whatever it takes, giving 100%, in order to get to college. Imagine what your donation would mean to the lives of our students, allowing them the opportunity to relax and communicate their expressions through music. On the behalf of my students, thank you SO much for your time. I really hope you consider funding part of our project.
