I teach 2nd grade in North Carolina. I teach in a very large elementary school. We have over 700 students.

There is a lot of needs at our school and not enough money to go around. Myself and the other second grade teachers have had difficulty with our reading instruction because of the lack of amount of leveled books to use during our guided reading lessons. We have students that have a wide range of abilities in reading and need books on different levels in order to accommodate them all.

We need more guided reading books to teach decoding, fluency and comprehension skills in reading. These books will really help start our second grade book room in order for all of the second grade teachers to share for our students.

This grant will effect over 200 students in the second grade. We are running out of books on our students reading level. Your help will improve our students reading by giving us the tools in order to instruct our students. It is ineffective to teach students using books that are not on their instructional level. We really need more books to accommodate students at all levels.
